# AI Operating System Quickstart

A local-first Markdown workspace for durable AI context, source preservation, decisions, and search.

## The problem

AI sessions often restart from scattered files, stale chats, and partial memory. Useful conclusions disappear unless they are written into a durable, searchable system.

## What I built

This quickstart creates a local-first Markdown workspace with explicit places for raw sources, reusable reference pages, operating records, outputs, rules, and rebuildable search indexes. The core loop is capture, summarize, distill, operate, search, and reuse.

The shipped search layer uses local SQLite full-text search with a plain-text fallback. Markdown remains canonical; indexes are disposable artifacts. The public template contains structure and placeholders rather than personal or company source material.

## Start a workspace

```bash
npx create-ai-operating-system my-aos --personal
```

Use `--work` for a work-oriented workspace, then run the included offline privacy check before sharing a copy.
